The Creative Journey

In late July 2020, while dropping through Wombat In Thirroul, Lindsay had this little dome lamp that had just come in across the weekend. It had been recently removed from a barn from a deceased estate.

The lamp was a little worse for wear, the glass dome, unfortunately cracked and not able to be reused, however, what is difficult to find is the metal versions of these lamps, especially with the extended shade.

Many modern lamps have a Bakelite top housing and are not shaded.

Without realising at the time, I had amassed several glass domes over the years, and all were of the exact replacement, which was excellent.

The BC22 lamp holder is the high-quality brass lamp holder that is made by S. Lilley & Son Ltd in England.

The entry on the BC22 is a 3/8-inch BSP Fine thread and the outer lamp housing, threaded for a 20mm electrical steel conduit.

During the restoration process, unfortunately the original 3/8 thread tube had to be sacrificed so to be able to clean out the threads, however, a short length of 3/8 tube was sourced by Michael of Perl Lighting and Brassware in Willoughby NSW.

The lamp housing was brushed to reveal the original patina, finally a coat of clear protective varnish was applied.

The lamp itself is completed, but not yet electrically wired and is now something to use in a project once a design is conceptualised.
