Bespoke Steampunk Desk Lamp
2020 seems to have become a little busier on the lamp fronts with several projects coming to fruition.
Normally the weekends will see me on the NSW South Coast, and regularly we will venture through to Robertson and the Southern Highlands town of Bowral.
In early July 2020, we travelled up to Fitzroy Falls, were a small antique and wares store, "Grandpa's Shed" exists, which is a little gem to visit.
Lurking in the back, I had found a high-voltage insulator (which incidently, I have my eye on for some time), however this time I made an offer and purchased it.
For some time, I have had a brass cage and components which I had purchased from Edison Light Globes in Melbourne, which would be the basis of the lamp.
I must take a moment to mention the creative folk at Edison Light Globes, as they have some beautiful products and excellent parts and service, not to mention the inspiration for this lamp.
I had decided to use the insulator as a base for the lamp which would require some additional design for mounting and integrating the components.
The project commenced with drilling of the ceramic insulator. I then ordered some additional components from Edison Light Globes to complete the lamp.
One additional main component is the turned Acetal base which closes off the base of the insulator and allows for the electrical connections to be made inside.
The lamp was completed and first lit on 10th August 2020.
