Product Description

A conversation starter, the CD490 telephone pole insulator was originally manufactured by Australian Glass Manufacturing (AGM) around the late 1930s and 1940s. The insulator is marked AGEE and the most common available colour is from light pink / purple to a more pronounced intense purple.

The colour of the insulator arises from "solarisation" of the glass, where ultra-violet light from the sun causes a chemical change in the impurities in the glass. Typically manganese dioxide (MnO₂) was used as decolouriser.

Ordering Information & Options

We are able to supply a number of different cable colours and designs. We also offer optional method for cable termination to a standard 3-pin plug*.

Please note, you will require to have a fully licensed electrician complete the installation of our fixed-wired pendant lamp.

Please advise us prior to ordering as what options you would like us to build your lamp. If you require additional length of cable over 1,200mm, we are able to supply at $10.00 per meter length.

* We do not recommend suspending the insulator only from a standard 3-pin plug as its unsecured.

** CD490 Insulators are no longer manufactured, therefore we have to source our insulators as they become available from collectors. Therefore each insulator has its own unique characteristic and may have some small flaws, scratches or small chips which add to the authenticity of the piece.
